A short sale begins with a seller getting permission from their lender to market a home for less than the current mortgage that the lender holds. The short sale price that is marketed to the buying public is subjective. Ask the agent, "is that an approved short sale price?" If the answer is no then you can expect to pay more for the home than it's listed. The lower price is to entice multiple offers.
